Velta RD Titan
Titanium production traditionally has required the energy-consuming, costly, and low-output Kroll process. It involves the creation of a large amount of chemical waste, including CO2, and the use of chlorine, which only contributes to the globe’s environmental challenges.
Velta hired the best Ukrainian scientific experts in metallurgy and chemistry to launch an R&D facility to completely rethink the way titanium is produced.
Through an intensive five-year R&D effort, we have succeeded in developing and patenting a revolutionary technology that provides cutting-edge methods for obtaining titanium metal powder at significantly lower cost and with far fewer carbon emissions.
Velta Ti Process
Velta Ti Process revolutionary technology has significant advantages over the outdated Kroll method, which is energy-intensive, expensive, and inefficient.
Reduced carbon footprint
High value-added by-products
No solid or liquid waste
Air emission limitations
ADVANTAGES OF VELTA TI PROCESS
The cost of titanium powder, obtained with the new method, is 3 to 4 times lower compared to the Kroll-PREP process.
The outdated method has high Buy-to-Fly ratio with an industry average of about 10:1 this means the efficiency of material usage is low, or each 1 kg of the final part requires 10 kg of material to make it.
Velta Ti Process has high economic efficiency having 1.5:1 Buy-to-Fly ratio. The material is produced in a near-net shape. The technology allows manufacturing of different types of titanium metal powders at a lower cost.
The final product of Velta’s cutting-edge method is a high-quality titanium powder, which can be used both for traditional powder metallurgy and new additive technologies, including 3D printing.
