» Ukrainian Space and Titanium at Aeromate international convention in France

Velta company participated in the Aeromate business convention for the aerospace industry as a part of the Dnipro Space Cluster.

Dnipro Space Cluster stand (@Dnipro Space Cluster) included companies and universities that are part of the space tech ecosystem of the Dnipro region, namely the National Center for Control and Testing of Space Vehicles (NCCTSV), “Ivchenko-Progress”, Kharkiv Aviation Institute (KAI), BOS, Velta and other. They presented a number of innovative solutions in the sphere of orbital transport technologies, data processing received from space, and material science.

Velta presented titanium powder produced with the help of unique green technology patented in Ukraine and the USA. Such a union demonstrated space and titanium industries that are two innovative, powerful and connected to each other industries in Ukraine. Such aerospace giants as Boeing, Airbus, Ariane, Dassault, Safran are actively implementing additive technologies for maintenance and producing new spare parts made of metal powders. This market is rapidly developing. The companies both are launching their own facilities and use outsourcing for printing the products. Airbus A350 is the leader among the companies using 3D-printed units in civil aviation.

Additive technologies have two main advantages: fast order fulfillment due to the absence of a long manufacturer’s chain and a significant reduction in the amount of material to manufacture parts due to high production accuracy. This approach also expands the use of titanium in the aerospace industry. For example, the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner will use 15% titanium from the total weight, which is 5% more than steel.

The Ukrainian stand attracted a lot of attention, including official state delegations. The mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc, expressed his support for Ukraine and its aerospace industry and invited its representatives to cooperate with Toulouse and its province of Occitania which are rightly regarded as the aerospace capital of Europe.

A model of an orbital tug was presented at the stand of the Dnipro Space Cluster. In addition to delivering payloads to low-Earth orbits, it is designed to remove “space debris” from orbit. After the end of the exhibition, the Ukrainian exhibit moved to the Space City (@Cite d’Espace), where it will be presented at a permanent exhibition.

It is also worth mentioning that after the congress, the Airbus company made a statement regarding the refusal of Russian titanium. Michael Scholhorn, Executive Director of Airbus Defense & Space, stated that this process will take months, not years.
